On the Street....Preparing for Pitti, Florence

I'm getting my wardrobe ready for the upcoming Pitti Uomo in Florence.

I love the idea of a tailored jacket with sportier shorts.

Two years ago I tried a few very casual, unconstructed cotton sport coats (45RPM, Junya, and Engineered Garments to be exact) but the lack of structure and sculpting in the high-waist made the look too shapeless for my tastes.

I'm not saying that the option above is the perfect scenario, but it's a very good reference point.

Actually, last week in Milan I found a great cotton sport coat at Piombo. The jacket fits like the one above, but the upper-sleeve is slimmer and the washed cotton gives the jacket a sportier feel.

I have to write more about Piombo later. If you don't know it, imagine an Italian, super chic version of J.Crew.

On the Street....Out of Nowhere, Milano

This past week I was shooting an ad campaign in Milan.

While I was searching for a location on a very quiet residential street near Parco Sempione, this man, a Sartorialist All-Star, just happened to pop up on his bike. This must have been fate because the street was so quiet.

I didn't have my regular camera, since I was riding around on the back of a Vespa. However Emanuele, one of the production staff, had his tiny point-and-shoot so I rattled off a few shots.

It has always been so random when I run into this gentleman and yet always quite inspiring. He's so sporty, chic and, of course, always with his bike.

When we got back to the trailer I told one of the other production people about seeing him again, and she's now convinced that he's my guardian angel!

Anne Keothavong In Action

Anne Keothavong has claimed she would have done broken into the world's top 50 years ago were it not for “unprofessional people” at the Lawn Tennis Association.
The 25-year-old rose four places to 48th in the rankings, following her run to the semi-finals in the Cellular South Cup in Memphis last week.
She is the first British woman since Jo Durie 16 years ago to make it into the top 50, and it continues the relatively late blossoming of a player who was ranked 134th 12 months ago.
But, although Keothavong is now content with the support provided to her by the LTA, she has criticised the sport's governing body in Britain for hampering her progress earlier in her career.
The Londoner, who turned professional in 2001, said she was now reaping the benefits of working with coaches she could trust.

NEW YORK - When Todd Martin announced his retirement from tennis on Monday night after losing his first-round match to Frenchman Fabrice Santoro in four sets, Andre Agassi became the last graybeard on the men’s circuit. Older players such as Pete Sampras, Jim Courier, Michael Chang, David Wheaton and now Martin have stepped aside.

Can Agassi carry the mantle himself by winning his ninth career Grand Slam at the U.S. Open? Frankly, I don’t think so. Why? Age has caught up with him.

Third seeds Sania Mirza and Shahar Peer survived a scare from Tatiana Poutchek and Anastasia Rodionova before advancing to the doubles quarter-finals of the US $600,000 Bank of West Classic tournament in Stanford.
The Indo-Israeli pair beat the unseeded Belarussian-Russian duo 6-1, 0-6, 11-9 in over an hour at the WTA Tour hard court tournament on Wednesday.
Sania and Peer will meet the Uzbek-German team of Akgul Amanmuradova and Angalika Bachmann.
Sania, who is aiming for a second successive doubles title after her triumph in Cincinatti with Bethanie Mattek last week, and Peer failed to convert two breakpoints in the third set which saw them being broken thrice.
But they got their act together in the super tie-breaker to advance to the quarters.

Bintang Harry Potter Malu Berakting Bugil

Setelah banyaknya bintang Harry Potter yang tampil bugil, kini giliran Rupert Grint. Meski demikian, ia mengaku malu saat tampil bugil didepan aktor senior Bill Nighy dalam film terbarunya yang berjudul ‘Wild Target’.

Menurut laporan Femalefirst, dalam sebuah adegan film tersebut, dikamar mandi ia Rupert harus berakting dengan hanya mengenakan celana dalam saja, ia pun mengaku tidak percaya diri melakukan hal itu

“Itu sangat memalukan, di mana aku berdiri di bathup. Saya memiliki tali atlet, itu sangat aneh karena itu bukan air , tapi susu. Untuk membuat air keruh sehingga kamu tidak bisa melihat apa-apa,” ungkap Rupert.

“Syukurnya saat syuting berlangsung tidak banyak orang yang ada di lokasi, hanya sejumlah kru dan Bill saja. Dia tidak hanya berkata, akan tetapi aku merasa tidak nyaman untuk kita berdua,” terangnya.

Sementara itum aktor berusia 21 tahun tersebut mengaku tidak khawatir mengenai bentuk tubuhnya saat berakting bugil. Karena walaupun tak melakukan olahraga khusus, ia mengaku tidak bermalas-malasan dan selalu mengerjakan sesuatu.

Sebelumnya, Grint juga pernah berakting setengah bugil saat adegan bercinta dengan seorang aktris muda, Kimberly di dalam film ‘Cherrybomb'. Saat itu, dia mengaku malu. Karena, saat film itu ditunjukkan kepadanya, dia menyaksikannya dengan orangtuanya.

Semenjak kasus perselingkuhan suaminya dan berakhir dengan perceraian, Sandra Bullock menghilang dari public. Tapi kini terdengar kabar kalau Sandra akan menghadiri ajang MTV Movie Awards.

Menurut laporan People, dalam ajang yang akan digelar pada 6 Juni 2010 mendatang, Sandra disebut sebagai penerima MTV Generation Award. Bahkan bintang film ‘The Blind Side’ tersebut sepakat untuk hadir menerima penghargaan tersebut.

Sementara itu, Juru bicara Sandra pun mengamini kalau perempuan berusia 45 tahun itu akan hadir dalam ajang MTV Movie Awards, tetapi ia juga menjelaskan kalau Sandra tidak akan melakukan sesi tanya jawab.

Sebelumnya sang juru bicara juga membantah aktris yang popular lewat perannya di ‘Speed’ tersebut mundur dari dunia akting. Bahkan ia mengatakam Sandra tidak pernah memiliki keinginan untuk pensiun dari berakting.

Let's Discuss....Suspenders

I'm so tired of my pants riding on my hips (like jeans) and not on my waist(right below the belly-button) where they should be. All day I'm adjusting my pants hoping they will stay in the right place. My belt doesn't want to help the situation either. It's either too tight or too loose..always.

The other day I broke down and bought a pair of suspenders for my new Ralph Lauren Purple Label suit. After wearing the suspenders just one night I will probably never go back to belting suitpants again. Suspenders work!!

Suspenders keep your pants in place like no belt ever could. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the look of suspenders and I hate funny or theme-y suspenders, so i hide my braces under a vested suit.

The downside of this new love is that suspenders are so hard to find, at least in New York. Suspenders and cufflinks are two of the most important accessories for men and yet the challenge of finding great options is almost insurmountable.

So, what do I need to know about the art and craft of suspenders and where can I find some good ones?

Setelah kematian bibinya yang diakibatkan penyakit lupus. Kini Lady Gaga telah menjalani tes medis untuk menentukan apakah ia menderita lupus, penyakit genetis yang diderita bibinya.

Wanita yang membawakan lagu ‘Poker Face’ tersebut telah mendapat anjuran medis karena mengalami sederet masalah kesehatan pada tahun lalu. Termasuk sulit bernapas, penglihatan kabur, stress, dan sakit kepala.

Karena hal itulah, kini Lady Gaga menjalani tes medis lupus, penyakit yang menyebabkan system kekebalan tubuh menyerang bibi dan Joanne, kakak perempuan dari ayahnya, yang meninggal saat ia berusia 19 tahun. Tetapi Gaga tak ingin para penggemarnya khawatir dengan kesehatannya.

“ Ya saya pernah dites, tapi saya tak mau siapapun menjadi cemas. Saya mengalami jantung berdebar sangat kuat dan tidak beraturan. Tapi itu tak masalah, itu hanya disebabkan oleh kelelahan yang sangat,” ungkapnya seperti dilansir dari The Times.

Bahkan wanita berusia 24 tahun ini juga mengaku kalau selama ini ia meminum pil untuk membantunya mengatasi tekanan akibat menjadi popular.

“Saya mengosumsi obat-obatan dengan resep. Saya tak bisa mengendalikan pikiran saya sama sekali. Saya tersiksa. Tapi saya suka itu. Siksaan itu baik, pikiran tidak terhentikan, tapi juga musik itu datang secara konstan,” terangnya.

Foo Fighter Siap Bikin Album Berwarna Orkestra

Tahun ini Foo Fighter bakal merilis album terbaru. Perubahan konsep akan terjadi dalam album tersebut.

Sentuhan orkestra bakal mewarnai album pemilik hits 'Learn to Fly' tersebut yang kini sedang dalam tahap proses rekaman itu.

"Kami bakal bermain dengan London Philharmonic Orchestra. Sesuatu yang gampang, kami pernah melakukan rekaman serupa. Semua bisa berubah dengan band kami," kata sang drummer Taylor seperti dikutip dari contactmusic.

Sementara itu, grup band yang dimotori Dave Grohl ini mengatakan pernah gagal dalam rekaman album disaat-saat akhir.

"Kami pernah tak berhasil saat akhir, semua rekaman senilai ratusan ribu dollar hanya untuk merekam ulang semuanya dalam seminggu di ruang bawah tanah Dave,"imbuh Taylor.

Basis Slipknot Tewas Dikamar Hotel

Dunia musik rock kembali kehilangan orang-orang hebatnya. Kali ini bassis band Slipknot, Paul Gray ditemukan tewas dalam sebuah kamar hotelnya.

Sementara itu, tubuhnya yang sudah tak bernyawa tersebut ditemukan oleh istrinya yang sedang hamil. Tubuh Paul tergeletak dikamar hotel Town Plaza di Urbandale, Iowa pada Senin (24/5) kemarin. Hingga saat ini belum disebutkan secara pasti kapan kematian Paul.

Tak hanya itu, unhtuk penyebab kematiannya hingga saat ini pun pihak berwajib masih dalam proses penyelidikan. Dugaan sementara, ia meninggal karena oer dosis. Sedangkan menurut The Sun, jenasah Paul akan menjalani otopsi hari ini, Selasa, 25 Mei 2010.

Sang istri, Brenna, masih dalam keadaan syok. Pihak manajemen belum bisa bicara banyak atas kondisi keluarga Paul. Semua berduka masih dalam tahap berduka.

Model Lingerie Siap depak Megan Fox di Transformer

Setelah dikabarkan Megan Fox dipecat dari film sekuel ‘Transformers 3’ kini, sutaradara Michael Bay telah mencari penggantinya. Nama Rosie Huntington kini disebut menjadi bintag utama film tersebut.

Menurut laporan The Sun, sumber yang dekat dengan Rosie mengatakan model Victoria’s Secret itu mendapat tawaran langsung dari sang sutradara. Bahkan Rosie menjadi pilihan Bay karena penampilan fisiknya yang seksi.

Tetapi muncul pertanyaan, apakah Rosie pantas mendapatkan peran utama dalam ‘Transformers 3’? berbeda dengan Megan, saat ini model asal Inggris tersebut belum memiliki pengalaman berakting. Sementara saat pertama kali muncul dalam Transformers, Megan telah main bareng Lindsay Lohan.

Coldplay Siap Ganti U2 di Glastonbury Festival

Kepopuleran band U2 memang tak diragukan, bahkan mereka dipilih sebagai gong dalam festival terbesar di Inggris, Glastonbury. Tetapi U2 memutuskan untuk mundur, kini Coldplay diunggulkan banyak orang sebagai penggantinya.

U2 membatalkan tampil dalam acara tersebut pada 25 Mei 2010 lalu. Bono, sang vokalis, harus mendapatkan istirahat total pasca menjalani operasi punggung pada pekan lalu.

Sementara itu, Glastonbury Festival 2010 akan digelar pada 23-27 Juni mendatang. sebelumnya U2 direncanakan tampil pada 25 Juni 2010 di panggung Pyramid. Selain Coldplay, Kylie Minoque juga jadi favorit.

Polling itu diambil dari blog situs NME, Rabu (26/5). Dua musisi tersebut sudah lama tidak ikut eksis dalam ajang bergengsi tersebut.

Kylie sebelumnya dijadwalkan pada pentas Glastonbury Festival 2005. Namun kemudian batal tampil karena harus terapi kanker. Sementara Coldplay juga batal tampil pada tahun 2010. Musisi lain yang diminta calon penonton untuk tampil adalah The Rolling Stones dan Led Zeppelin.
